Our Story
Andrusenko Family and Volunteers
DEMKIVTSI, is a small village of about 200 people in the western part of Ukraine. It is an ordinary village with an extraordinary story of God’s love.
The first written mention of the village dates back to December 7, 1753. At that time the village belonged to the heirs of Ostroh princes.
The general vicinity of the village is home to various springs that eventually form the left branch of the Sluch River.
During the Soviet era, it was a typical village. People worked in the collective farms, and children went to a local school and were expected to join the communist party by the age of 16.
For the most part, Christians existed under the radar, meeting in various homes often changing locations to avoid capture. However, in the 1990s, the Soviet Union fell apart and so did the way of life. Because of religious freedoms experienced after the fall of the USSR, Christians decided to build a House of Prayer (i.e. a church building) in the village.
Initially, the church experienced growth and revival, but attendance quickly dwindled as legalism took hold and the Great Commission and the Great Commandment were relegated to the back pews.
With the start of the war in 2022, our small village was transformed into a refugee resettlement station. We also started a food ministry to feed the refugees and the men serving in the armed forces.
What is DEMKIVTSI today?
Today, our little village is again experiencing a revival. People of all faiths and backgrounds have come together to serve one another. We come together to prepare meals, pray for one another, and to support one another in any way we can.
We serve families by providing them support emotional, spiritual, and physical help. Currently, we are offering the following support:
Summer Camps for children
Monthly bible studies for children
Fishing experience (we have two fully stocked lakes)
Father / Son camping nights
Food ministry is serving thousands of meals each week
Adult bible study
Prayer support for our local community
What is our DREAM?
We envision DEMKIVTSI to be a model community for many to follow. We envision DEMKIVTSI to be a practical representation of what it means to love your neighbors by serving them. We envision a community that is fully accessible to people regardless of their physical or mental needs. We envision a community that serves as a place of rest and rejuvenation for pastors, soldiers, single mothers, and families.
We envision DEMKIVTSI to be a place people want to come back to and never leave because of the love and care they feel here.
We envision a place where everything points people to the Gospel.
